Glaze and Surface Workshop
Glaze and Surface Workshop
In this workshop participants will be participating in an atmospheric cone 10 Wood & Soda Firing at East Creek’s catenary arch wood kiln with educational instruction by Samuel Newman and Dwayne Sackey!
Students will be exposed to concepts of atmospheric firing techniques and learn how a reduced wood & soda atmosphere affects ceramic wares. This workshop will include educational framing and guidance with glazing (glaze making, glaze recipes, painting, dipping, and spraying), surface preparation, wadding, loading, firing, unloading, and cleaning of the kiln and wares. This workshop will provide an informative overview of the glazing and atmospheric firing techniques that Samuel and Dwayne have been developing and utilizing in their respective clay practice.
With an ethos of shared effort and shared result, this workshop is built to accommodate out-of-town participants as we will plan to hold the first session in-person and remotely. Please note that you’ll want to be in Portland, OR with three cubes of cone 10 bisque ware by noon on Thursday Oct. 16th.
While at East Creek Art we’ll have a range of lodging options. Car camping is a great option if you’ll have a vehicle, but there are cabin rental and low cost bunk rental options
Before purchasing your workshop reservation please review the cancellation policy and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!
